A little history
The presence of an oppidum at the monts de Caubert shows that the site of Mareuil-Caubert was occupied by humans since at least the Iron Age. The oppidum was also occupied during the Middle Ages, as the troops of the English king Édouard III stayed there in 1346, a few days before the Bataille de Crécy. The commune resulted from the merger in 1826 of Mareuil, at the foot of the hillside to the south, and Caubert, a small hilltop village to the north. It also served as one of the theatres of operations during the Bataille d'Abbeville in 1940. During the Second World War, an aircraft crashed on the school-town hall.
