Luzarches (prononciation) is a French commune situated in the département of Val-d'Oise, in the Île-de-France region. Its inhabitants are called the Luzarchois.
A little history
Luzarches was a town of some importance, deriving its prosperity from traffic along the main Paris to Amiens road. From the second half of the 19th century, however, the advent of the railway changed the situation. Roads lost their importance for long-distance transport. Luzarches did not obtain a connection to the railway network until 1 May 1880, by means of a dead-end branch line, with no efficient service to Paris. As a result, the commune was not chosen as a place of residence by the many Parisians and inhabitants of the inner suburbs who were gradually moving to the countryside.
