Lucé is a French commune in the western suburbs of Chartres, situated in the département of Eure-et-Loir in the Centre-Val de Loire region. The commune, which has more than 15,000 inhabitants, is, by its population, the third largest town in the département after Chartres and Dreux. Lucé is an urban commune with 15,921 inhabitants in 2023, having experienced a sharp rise in population since 1962.
A little history
In 1791, the commune of Lucé was united with that of Mainvilliers by the decree of the Assemblée nationale of 27 April 1791. Thus, the Napoleonic cadastral plans of Mainvilliers, drawn up in 1809, include a section Q "dite du Hameau de Lucé", mentioning in particular the church of that parish and the hamlets of Petit and Grand Lucé. In 1836, the cadastral section of Lucé was separated from the other sections of Mainvilliers and established as a commune under Louis-Philippe by the royal ordinance of 4 March 1836. A small portion of the commune of Amilly was then taken to form part of the new commune of Lucé, giving it an area of 547 hectares and 36 ares.
