Mainvilliers is a French commune situated in the western suburbs of Chartres, in the département of Eure-et-Loir, in the région of Centre-Val de Loire. Exposed to an altered oceanic climate, it is drained by the Coinon and another small watercourse. Mainvilliers is an urban commune with 10,629 inhabitants in 2023, having experienced a sharp rise in population since 1962.
A little history
In 1791, the commune of Lucé was united with that of Mainvilliers by the decree of the Assemblée nationale of 27 April 1791. Thus, the Napoleonic cadastral maps of Mainvilliers, drawn up in 1809, include a section Q described as the Hameau de Lucé, mentioning in particular the church of that parish and the hamlets of Petit and Grand Lucé. In 1836, the cadastral section of Lucé was separated from the other sections of Mainvilliers and established as a commune under Louis-Philippe by the royal ordinance of 4 March 1836. In 1871, the prefect of Eure-et-Loir reported that Mainvilliers had been occupied for almost five months by the Prussians, from 21 October 1870, the date on which the château was bombarded, to 16 March 1871.
