A little history
The parish of Locminé originated from a division of the two parishes of Moréac and Plumelin. Around the 7th century, disciples of saint Gildas founded, at the far end of the parish, the abbaye Saint-Sauveur de Moréac or Moriac, from which the place name derives (the Cartulaire de Redon cites (in Latin) Cœnobium Moriacense, quod est Loch Meneck and, in another passage, Monasterium Loc'h Menech, id est Locus Monacorum). Following the Viking raids (in 877 according to Dom Lobineau, in 888 according to Arthur de La Borderie, in 919 according to Joseph-Marie Le Mené), the monastery of Loc-Menec was destroyed and the monks took refuge at Déols in the Berry, where they built a new monastery.
