A little history
From the end of the 1st century until the third quarter of the 2nd century, Lezoux was a major centre of ceramic production in the Roman world, overtaking the site of Condatomagnus, later known as a Graufesenque, Bannassiacum, (see the corresponding article for references). Its numerous workshops producing Samian ware were distributed across several groups, to which each potter was attached almost exclusively. The most celebrated Gallo-Roman decorators of the 2nd century are Cinnamus and Paternus. A century of excavations has revealed hundreds of Gallo-Roman potters' kilns.
