Lezay is a French commune, situated in the département of Deux-Sèvres in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region.
A little history
In the Middle Ages, from at least the 12th century, Lezay was a fief of the Lusignan, held notably by the cadet branch descended from Simon Ier, the younger son of Hugues VII (Simon fl. in the 12th century. The Lusignan most likely inherited Lezay from a local seigneurial family, the wife of Hugues VII and mother of Simon, Sarrasine, being referred to as de Lezay). Simon was the great-great-grandfather of Simon IV (fl. around 1300), who was succeeded by his son Simon V, father of Simon VI. However, the senior branch of the Lusignan-Lezay died out in the male line in 1386, upon the death of Simon VI.
