A little history
Les Essarts-le-Roi was founded by a royal decision emanating from Hugues Capet at the end of the tenth century. Philippe Auguste ceded the territory in 1203 to the duché de Bretagne and its fate depended from that point on the lords of Montfort. The commune of Les Essarts, established by the French Revolution, absorbed that of Les Layes in 1814 and took the name Les Essarts-le-Roi. From 1879, the quarries of Maréchaux at Cernay-la-Ville and Senlisse were in operation, producing amongst other things paving stones intended for the roads of Paris.
