A little history
A first merger project between several communes of the Pays-des-Achards was outlined in spring 2015. Indeed, whilst debates on the draft law on the new territorial organisation of the Republic (Notre) concerned raising the threshold of 20,000 inhabitants for intercommunal authorities with their own tax powers, the elected representatives of the communauté de communes were considering the creation of a new commune before 1 January 2017, anticipating the merger of the territory (19,401 inhabitants in 2012) with the Talmondais and the Pays-Moutierrois.
