Lentilly [lɑ̃tiji] is a French commune situated in the département du Rhône, in the région Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. Its inhabitants are known as the Lentillois and the Lentilloises.
A little history
The earliest traces of human occupation at Lentilly date back to the Chalcolithic period (between 2300 and 1800 BC), and a dagger from this era was found near Cruzols. The presence of a human settlement in Gallo-Roman times on the territory of Lentilly is supported by various observations. Le Mercruy, the highest point in the commune, may well take its name from Mercury, the god of travellers and trade. Excavations carried out between 1971 and 1973 revealed the existence of a fanum on this summit.
