Le Plessis-Bouchard, the town

Le Plessis-Bouchard covers 2.7 km², lies between 57 and 81 m above sea level and had 8,518 inhabitants in the 2023 census.

Le Plessis-Bouchard is a French commune situated in the département of Val-d'Oise, in the Île-de-France region. Its inhabitants are called les Plessis-buccardesiens.

A little history

In times unknown, the first inhabitants of Le Plessis-Bouchard settled in an unfavourable environment of woodland, moors and marshes. To protect themselves from wildlife coming from the nearby forêt de Boissy (deer, roe deer, wild boar...), they surrounded their hamlet with hurdles or hedges (plaisses), from which the village takes its name. However, they had one advantage, perhaps at the origin of their settlement, namely the proximity of the chaussée Jules-César, built in the first quarter of the 1st century. In the 12th century, the hamlet of Le Plessis formed part of the parish of Saint-Leu, in the diocese of Paris.
