Le Perray-en-Yvelines is a French commune situated in the département des Yvelines, in the Île-de-France region. Its inhabitants have been called les Perrotins since 1980.
A little history
Under the reign of Louis IX (Saint-Louis), a new village arose from the stone road between Paris and Chartres, "villa nova de Pereio in Aquilina". On 7 November 1242, Aubry Lecornu, Bishop of Chartres, consecrated the parish placed under the patronage of Saint-Eloi. It was a collection of novales (cleared lands) where woodcutters who had come from les Essarts settled, followed by labourers who would farm these lands. The new village was situated on the old Roman road that ran from Orléans (Cenabum) to Poissy (Pinciacum) (from the forest of the Carnutes to the Seine).
