Le Faouët [lə fawɛt] is a French commune situated in the département of Morbihan, in the région of Bretagne.
A little history
Several finds attest to a human presence during the Bronze Age on the territory of the commune. A combat axe made of arsenical copper weighing 2,700 grammes dating from the very end of the third millennium before our era (the Neolithic/Bronze Age transition) was discovered in 1882 in the village of Kersoufflet, and a small hoard of 14 socketed axes, a form of currency ahead of their time, was discovered in 1909 in the village of Keranval et Rosenlaër. The combat axe is today on display at the Musée d'Archéologie nationale. This axe had more of an ostentatious function than a practical one.
