A little history
The Gaulish oppidum of Gondole is situated on the territory of the commune. The site, close to the confluence of the Auzon and the Allier, is one of the three major oppida of the Arvernes along with those of Corent and Gergovie. The old rampart is still very clearly visible alongside the railway line, which passes through the ditch that originally had a depth of 8m. During the most recent excavations, a craft-working suburb was discovered containing a number of potters' kilns.
