A little history
François Jouannet notes the passage of the Roman road towards Dax coming from Cestas, which bears the local name of Lébade or Camin Rouman. Ancient remains were subsequently identified there, by amongst others Camille Jullian. The village was founded around the hospital that existed from the 13th century on the site of the current church and which did not survive the abandonment of the pilgrimage because, as Baurein irreverently remarks, Qui peregrinantur, raro santificantur. An important post relay on the road to Spain which crossed the parish from north to south, it is the fourth staging post after Gradignan, Les Taules and Le Puch de Lagubath.
