Languidic, the town
Languidic covers 109.1 km², lies between 7 and 126 m above sea level and had 8,042 inhabitants in the 2023 census.
Languidic (pronounced [lɑ̃ɡidik]) is a French commune situated in the département of Morbihan in the Bretagne region. By its surface area, Languidic is the largest commune in Morbihan and since 1 January 2016, the fourth largest in Bretagne, behind Le Mené in the Côtes-d'Armor, Scaër in the Finistère and Paimpont in Ille-et-Vilaine. By its number of inhabitants, it was in 2021 the 16th commune in Morbihan. The first human activities on the communal territory appear as early as the Neolithic period. Several traces of human presence are still visible today.
A little history
The territory of Languidic has been occupied by humans since the Neolithic period. Numerous megalithic sites and object discoveries bear witness to this. The megalithic alignments of the « Grand Resto » or « Lann-Venet », also known as the alignments of Kersolan or « soldats de Saint Cornély », are thought to have been erected around 3,300 years BC. This site is probably a remnant of a larger ensemble. The stones have, over the years, been moved or destroyed.
