Significant Roman occupation. In his study of ancient roads in Lorraine, Jean Godfrin mentions a "viae vicinale" which would have been the main artery of the pagus "le Chaumontois". It is thought to have existed before the Roman conquest. According to the same author, starting from Romont, near Rambervillers, it would have joined Laneuveville-devant-Nancy and then Toul.
