A little history
Labenne, a coastal commune on the Landes coast, developed during the 19th century thanks to the draining of marshes (initiated by Napoléon III) and the exploitation of resinous forests. Before the Revolution, Labenne was a pastoral and agricultural village, with crops of maize, rye, millet and a small amount of vines. During the Second World War, a German radar station was installed on the dune. It consisted of a Mammut detection radar for aircraft and two auxiliary radars, Freya and Wurtzburg.
