La Teste-de-Buch [la tɛstə də byʃ] is a commune in the South-West of France, situated near Arcachon in the département of la Gironde, in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. It is part of the historic region of Gascogne. It is one of the largest communes in France by area.
A little history
As required by law in the case of property operations involving excavations, recent digs were carried out by the Institut national de recherche archéologique préventive (INRAP) on the relevant sites. Several excavation campaigns were therefore conducted between 2005 and 2013 in the Bourg of La Teste itself. In 2010, Bronze Age remains were discovered there, dating occupation of the area to around 1500 BC.
