La Plaine-des-Palmistes is a French commune on the island of La Réunion. The commune is situated in a flat and slightly sloping area between two volcanic massifs, at the centre of the island. It is served by a major road, the only cross-island and non-coastal route, linking Saint-Benoît to Saint-Pierre.
A little history
According to one early account, the whole of this area belonged before 1800 to a certain sieur Chabrier. It then passed, by way of an exchange, into the ownership of Hubert de Montfleury, who is said to have had a commemorative stone engraved in the bed of the Ravine Sèche bearing the date 1801.
