A little history
In the Middle Ages, a local feudal family bearing its name held the lordship (as also that of La Forest-Ste-Verge), the La Forest family, from Renaud Ier de La Forest onwards, in the second half of the 11th century. This noble land, constituting a barony, was within the sphere of influence of the viscounts (later dukes) of Thouars (including the La Trémoïlle from 1483). At the end of the 13th century or the beginning of the 14th, Josselin Ier de La Forest (1260-1317) acquired Commequiers from one of the Maurice de Belleville-Montaigu de La Garnache (Maurice IV, † in 1292?). His grandson Guy II de La Forest († c.
