L'Haÿ-les-Roses is a commune located in the Val-de-Marne department in the Île-de-France region, in France. It lies at the western tip of the department, on the border with Hauts-de-Seine. Having become a sub-prefecture in 1972, the town is thus the chief town of an arrondissement of Val-de-Marne.
A little history
The oldest document concerning the lands of Laiacum is a charter of Charlemagne dated 798, affirming the rights of the Church of Paris over this place. Local ecclesiastical legend holds that these rights date back to Clovis Ier, king of the Franks who converted to Christianity after the fall of the Western Roman Empire. Clovis is said to have distributed a significant portion of the lands of what is now the Parisian suburbs, including the domain of Laiacum, to the Church of Paris. Under Inchadus (810–831), successor to Erchanrade Ier, the eighth council of Paris took place on 6 June 829, at which it was decided that Lay would fall under the authority of Saint-Germain-des-Prés.
