A little history
With the exception of Ravine sèche, the territory was uninhabited until 1719. Previously, only hunters dared venture south of the Ravine des Avirons. On the coastline, a few huts formed a small fishing hamlet whose only land-based resource was the cultivation of sand beds covered in watermelons. At the end of the 19th century, the service des Eaux et Forêts planted thousands of filaos in order to cover the dunes and hold the sand in place.
