A little history
It is a crossing point for two Roman roads. A hermitage established by Pierre de Bunt was replaced by a Benedictine abbey founded around 1120 by saint Giraud de Salles, by privilege of Aliénor d'Aquitaine. At the beginning of the 13th century, the monks of L'Absie took part in the draining of the marais Poitevin. The abbey suffered greatly during the Hundred Years' War.
