The territory of Jouars-Pontchartrain has been inhabited since the earliest antiquity. Vestiges dating from the Neolithic period were found during the construction work for the diversion of the RN 12. The site of the ferme d'Ithe, situated on the banks of the Mauldre and to the west of the hamlet of Jouars, but within the communal territory of Le Tremblay-sur-Mauldre, corresponds to an ancient Gallo-Roman settlement by the name of Diodurum or Divo durum, one of the largest secondary settlements recorded in Île-de-France. The site of Diodurum has been surveyed since the middle of the twentieth century.
