A little history
Josselin is a town probably created around the year one thousand by Guethenoc, vicomte de Porhoët, although a Gallo-Roman road already passed through the town to connect the most important Gallo-Roman cities of Armorique. The vicomte de Porhoët is said to have had a first wooden castle built on this site around the year 1008. This was destroyed, along with the basilica and the whole town, by King Henri II Plantagenêt in 1168. His son Goscelinus, also known as Josselin de Porhoët, gave his name to the new fortress, Castellum Goscelini, from which came Château-Josselin and then Josselin, the castral village that offered a degree of safety.
