Jœuf is a French commune situated in the département of Meurthe-et-Moselle, in the Grand Est region. It is one of the three central towns of the unité urbaine de Jœuf.
A little history
In 1681, Jœuf was a feudal dependency of the king belonging to the chapter of the cathedral of Metz. Between 1751 and 1790, this town formed part of the bailliage de Briey. The lieu-dit Franchepré came under the abbey of Justemont (Premonstratensians). A hermitage was established there in the 16th century. In August 1809, on the decision of Napoléon Ier, the communes of Jœuf and Homécourt were merged and Charles Louis, the first mayor since 1803, was confirmed in his post.
