Human occupation of the site of Grigny dates back to the Bronze Age and proves to have been continuous throughout Antiquity. Tools and weapons dating from this period and from the Iron Age were discovered during dredging of the Rhône. The historic remains, concentrated for the most part in the town centre, date, for the oldest, from the 12th century and, for the most recent, from the 17th century.
