A little history
Ruins of a square tower dating from the 13th century and a château are present. Since at least 1210, there existed a local feudal family, the de Gretz/de Grez, descended from Barthélemy de Gretz, son of Béatrice and husband of Havise, seigneur de Nesles, father of Hugues, Adam, Henri and Guillaume (seigneur de Gretz in 1249–1266). Members of this family include the marshal Jean de Gretz de Corbeil († 1318), son of another Jean de Corbeil, and the prelates Guillaume († 1293) and Pierre de Grez († 1325), bishops of Auxerre, and Henri de Grez († 1246), bishop of Chartres. The sire de Gretz, from this first family onwards, also held, at least in large part, the forest of Armainvilliers (cf.
