A little history
A wealthy widow named Ermentrude describes in her will dated to the 570s (according to the dating proposed by Josiane Barbier) her possessions between Paris and Meaux, and particularly the villa de Lagny-sur-Marne. She donated the whole to the basilique Saint-Symphorien de Paris where her own son Deorovaldus is buried. A contemporary papyrus copy of the original is still preserved. Having received part of the territory from Erchinoald, Fursy de Péronne, an Irish monk, built on the bank of the Marne, on the villa Latiniacum of Clovis II and Bathilde, in the 7th century, a monastery, the abbaye Saint-Pierre, from which the village and then the present-day town of Lagny grew.
