A little history
Remains dating from the eponymous period of the Chelléen attest to the presence of man from prehistoric times on the territory of the commune and its surroundings, notably near the mont Châlat. In the Palaeolithic period, 300,000 years before Christ, the first inhabitants settled on the site of the present-day town, drawn by the game and fruits provided by the ancient forest known as Lauchonia sylva, by a Marne rich in fish and a temperate climate. Indeed, flint tools, hand axes serving as weapons and implements were discovered in 1874. In the Neolithic period, 4,000 years before Christ, a group of humans lived on the current site of the town hall.
