Grand-Champ [gʁɑ̃ ʃɑ̃] is a French commune and canton capital located in the département of Morbihan, in the Bretagne region. Its inhabitants are known as the Grégamistes.
A little history
Grandis Campus (nominative of Grandi Campo) is originally a hamlet or village forming part of the parish of Plumergat. A number of references to Roi Stevan are found there, including the commune's motto, Grand-Champ, pays d'accueil du Roi Stevan. Several episodes of the chouannerie concerned Grand-Champ. On 14 March 1794, approximately 1,500 men, Chouans, of whom only half had rifles, commanded by Joseph de Fay, marched on Grand-Champ where they felled the Arbre de la Liberté, raised the white flag on the bell tower and rang the tocsin until evening. The Bataille de Grand-Champ took place in 1795, during the suppression of the chouannerie.
