Gourin [ɡuʁɛ̃] is a commune in the département of Morbihan, in the région of Bretagne, in France.
A little history
In the 11th and 12th centuries Gourin was the seat of a viscountcy which extended over the parishes of Gourin, Guiscriff, Langonnet, Le Faouët and Leuhan and the trèves of Roudouallec, Le Saint, Lanvénégen and La Trinité. Among the viscounts of Gourin, worthy of mention are the names of Cadoret, who rose up in 1075 against the duke Hoël, and Tanguy Ier, who took part in the First Crusade alongside his duke Alain Fergent. The viscountcy was attached to the ducal domain as early as 1265. Gourin then became the seat of a ducal court which, following the act of union of Bretagne with France in 1532, became the seat of a royal sénéchaussée until its abolition during the French Revolution.
