Gleizé is a former land of the sires de Beaujeu, some of whose districts date from the Gallo-Roman era, which saw estates established from the 11th century onwards in an environment composed principally of forests. In the 15th century, Benedictine monks organised the village around its church, which was then situated in the valley of the Morgon.
