A little history
The Romans had built two bridges at Gamaches, over the Bresle, to establish a link between the Amiénois and the peoples of the pays de Caux. The town was formerly protected by a fortified wall pierced by five gates. In 1471, after Louis XI denounced the traité de Péronne and declared the seizure of the seigneurie du Vimeu, the Burgundians, masters of Abbeville, ravaged the region. Gamaches was then taken and burnt once again.
