Frouard is a French commune situated on the banks of the Moselle to the north of the Nancy conurbation, in the département of Meurthe-et-Moselle, a town in Lorraine in the Grand Est region. Its inhabitants, numbering 6,563 in 2017, are known as the Frouardais.
A little history
Frouard was the chief town of a châtellenie, which passed in 1220 under the homage of the comtes de Champagne and, consequently, of the kings of France, where it remained until 1465. The commune was furthermore the seat of a prévôté (prévostei de Froward) in 1420, and finally of a marquisat established in 1713. Built at the top of the côte de Pimont by duc Ferry III de Lorraine in 1271 on land belonging to the abbaye de Lay-Saint-Christophe in exchange for an annual fee of sixty sols derived from the four banal.
