A little history
In the 8th century, a Burgundian lord had an abbey built there for his sister. Was this sainte Gude, who would thus have been the first abbess of Faverney? Nothing is less certain. However, sainte Gude appears in the account of the martyrdom of the two Aquitanian pilgrims Berthaire and Athalein (766) (acta sanctorum Bertarii et Ataleno). According to the account, it is she who sees the inhabitants of the village of Bourguignon les Conflans coming to her, accompanying the fisherman from Bourguignon who had recovered in his nets two severed heads thrown into the river La Lanterne by two inhabitants of villa manaore (Menoux), Servat and Agenulfe.
