Essarts-en-Bocage (written Essarts en Bocage until 31 December 2023) is a commune in the Centre-Ouest of France, situated in the département of Vendée, in the région Pays de la Loire. Its inhabitants are called the Essartois. A prefectural order of 5 October 2015 allowed the creation of this new commune by the merger of Boulogne, les Essarts, L'Oie and Sainte-Florence with effect from 1 January 2016.
A little history
The new commune of Essarts en Bocage was created on 1 January 2016 by the absorption of the communes of Boulogne, les Essarts, L'Oie and Sainte-Florence. The inhabitants of the former communes of L'Oie and Sainte-Florence expressed their disapproval for the first time during the municipal elections of March 2020, confirmed by two successive petitions, and then finally requested their separation. The first petition sought the detachment of the communes and a return to autonomy in June 2020. In accordance with the applicable provisions, this petition was renewed in June 2021.
