A little history
The past of Épône stretches back to the earliest prehistory, as vestiges of the Palaeolithic period have been found both in the lower alluvial plain and on the plateau, notably various flint objects from the Mousterian period. Three collective burials dated to the Neolithic period, of the allée couverte type, were discovered on the territory of the commune. They have been linked to the civilisation known as Seine-Oise-Marne. The allée couverte de la Justice is still visible at Élisabethville, whilst that of Hérubé was destroyed during the construction of the railway line between Paris and Mantes-la-Jolie.
