Elven [ɛlvɛ̃] is a French commune, situated in the Morbihan department in the Bretagne region. The commune of Elven has held the Village étape label since 2004 and is part of the parc naturel régional du golfe du Morbihan.
A little history
A first fortification probably existed as early as the early Middle Ages, or even the Late Empire, at the lieu-dit Liscastel. The first known lord of Elven was named Derien. He is mentioned in a charter from the cartulaire de Redon, dated 1021. The current château de Largoët was built from the 14th century onwards, 2 km from the village, in the middle of a vast expanse of woodland.
