Dombasle-sur-Meurthe [dɔ̃bal syʁ mœʁt] is a French commune situated in the département of Meurthe-et-Moselle, in the Grand Est region. A central town of the urban unit that bears its name, it belongs to the urban area of Nancy. The commune bore the name Dombasle until 1961.
A little history
Under the Ancien Régime, the fief of Dombasle fell under the bailiwick and the châtellenie of Nancy. The community was divided into two bans, thus two distinct seigneuries, the ban de Lamont (l'Amont) or ban des seigneurs containing the château de la Motte (present-day rue de La Motte) and the ban de Laval (l'Aval) or ban de La Vaux or alternatively ban Saint-Gergonne. The inhabitants of the latter were known as the Gergonnets. According to the historical evidence in the histoire de Lorraine by Dom Calmet, in 752 King Pépin gave to the abbaye de Gorze all that belonged to him in the town of Dombasle.
