The territory of Dardilly forms part of the plateau lyonnais. (By this expression, geographers refer to the intermediate step between the monts du Lyonnais to the west and the Rhodanian plains to the east, stretching from north to south over some thirty km as far as the confluence of the Gier with the Rhône). It has the two essential characteristics of this area, namely the geological structure of hard, granitic and metamorphic rocks, which is that of the Massif central, and a sustained altitude of around 300 to 400 metres. In the southern part, this bedrock is veiled by a thin layer of clayey and gravelly alluvial deposits, a legacy of the Quaternary.
