Dangé-Saint-Romain, the town

Dangé-Saint-Romain covers 35 km², lies between 37 and 127 m above sea level and had 2,959 inhabitants in the 2023 census.

Dangé-Saint-Romain is a commune in the Centre-Ouest of France, situated in the département de la Vienne in the région Nouvelle-Aquitaine. Its inhabitants are called the Dangéens or Dangéennes.

A little history

In 1057, Dangé is mentioned under the name of Parochia Dangiaci in the cartulary charter of Noyers, then under that of Parochia Dangiacensis in 1058. Before the French Revolution, the parish of Dangé was part of the duché, the sénéchaussée and the élection of Châtellerault. Crossed by the royal road running from Paris to Spain, it benefited from the passage of travellers. It does not appear to have been dominated by powerful lords, but was instead animated by wealthy notables and occasionally unruly labourers.
