Crécy-en-Ponthieu is a French commune situated in the département of the Somme, in the Hauts-de-France region. The locality is internationally known as the site of the bataille de Crécy, one of the first battles of the Hundred Years' War in 1346, as well as for its forest massif, the largest in the département. This tourist commune forms part of the parc naturel régional Baie de Somme - Picardie maritime and holds the Pays d'art et d'histoire designation.
A little history
Circles, prehistoric enclosures and tumuli were found in the forêt de Crécy at the locations known as la Hutte des Grands Hêtres, les Grands Hêtres and le Poteau de Nouvion. They are thought to date from the Urnfield Culture, at the end of the Bronze Age. A menhir is found at the location known as la Longue Borne. Crécy was occupied during the Gallo-Roman period.
