A little history
For the greater part of its history, Corbas was a modest hamlet, marked by agricultural and forestry activity. During the French Revolution, it was attached to the commune of Marennes, until 1860 when the inhabitants gained independence for their commune. Situated on the edge of the forêt du Velin, which has since disappeared, its inhabitants probably lived from timber exploitation and related activities. In the 19th century, a landscape gardener from Chaponost, Antoine Pitiot, had mulberry trees planted and endowed the commune with a silkworm nursery.
