Conty is a French commune situated in the département de la Somme in the région Hauts-de-France. The small market town was the seat of the principauté de Conti.
A little history
La Selle, the woodland and the promontory (dominating the entire valley and where a château would later stand) are factors that encouraged people to settle there. The history of Conty appears to be of great richness, however few documents from the period covering the first millennium of our era have come down to us. Regarding the most ancient times, recent excavations (carried out during the excavation of a quarry), near La Selle, unearthed bones and remains of communal life dating from prehistoric man. In the middle of the 5th century, around 450, Attila and his hordes of Huns are said to have destroyed Conty, just as they sacked Amiens and razed Grandvilliers.
