Conlie is a French commune situated in the département of Sarthe in the Pays de la Loire region, with a population of 1,833 inhabitants. The commune forms part of the historic province of Maine, and is located in the Champagne mancelle.
A little history
The presence of habitation at Conlie can be dated to around the Gallo-Roman period. Indeed, Conlie is situated on the Gallo-Roman road from Le Mans to the mont Saint-Michel. Around 1795, Conlie (1,185 inhabitants in 1793) absorbed Verniette (167 inhabitants), to the south-west of its territory. A notable episode in Conlie's history was that of the camp in which thousands of Breton volunteers were brought at the time of the Franco-Prussian War of 1870-1871, with the aim of completing their basic training there.
