Conflans-Sainte-Honorine is a French commune in the Yvelines department, in the Île-de-France region. Conflans-Sainte-Honorine is the principal French city of inland waterway transport (that is to say navigation and the fluvial transport of goods, formerly very widespread and still practised today, though less so than in the era when barges carried the bulk of domestic trade).
A little history
The site has been inhabited since the Neolithic period. In 1872 a covered gallery grave was discovered there and was transported to the musée d'archéologie nationale de Saint-Germain-en-Laye, and in 1882 another burial from the Iron Age was found near the first station at Conflans in the Fin-d'Oise quarter. The site of a fortified camp known since the 8th century, it marks the furthest western boundary of the royal domain proper. Charles II le Chauve gave this village and the lordship to the bishops of Paris, on the condition that peasants kept constant watch to announce the coming of the Vikings who might sail up the Seine. This also allowed the bishops of Paris to assert themselves over those of Rouen and Chartres.
