A little history
In 1880, the railway line between Nantes and Challans was extended to La Roche-sur-Yon, passing through Commequiers where the station was built. A year later, it became an important hub in local rail traffic. A branch serving Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie was subsequently built, joining the main line to the north of the town, which meant that trains coming from Nantes had to reverse from Commequiers station to serve the Vendée port (this manoeuvre not being necessary for trains coming from La Roche-sur-Yon). From 1970, this line was closed during the winter period.
