Combronde is a French commune situated in the département of Puy-de-Dôme, in the region of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. It is part of the aire d'attraction of Clermont-Ferrand. Its inhabitants are known as the Combrondaires.
A little history
Grégoire de Tours mentions twice the monasterium canbidobrense founded around 506. The following century, the comte Genès, withdrawing from the world, is said to have settled at Chavanon. In the "Dictionnaire géographique portatif" published by the Libraires associés de Paris in 1784, reviewed by the royal censor Riballier, little is said other than that Combronde was originally the oppidum candidobrinse and that at that time it was a marquisat. Indeed, Combronde was a baronnie erected into a marquisat in May 1637 in favour of René du Puy-du-Fou (René II du Puy du Fou, 1595–1642, who will be mentioned again below).
